Saturation Concrète

featuring Séverine Ballon
and the TAK ensemble

May 29th, 2016, 5:00 - 8:30pm
The Dimenna Center

Saturation Concrète explores two currents shared by young American and French musicians: "musique concrète instrumentale" is instrumental writing inspired by mid-20th century French electronic music, and "saturation" brings heavy amplification and pop-inspired elements back into the concert hall.

Séverine Ballon and the TAK ensemble present two distinct programs, each preoccupied with noise, extremes, and the ambiguity between electrified and acoustic sound, interspersed with large-scale acousmatic works by French idols Eliane Radigue and Luc Ferrari. Another highlight is the second performance and East Coast premiere of a work by Chaya Czernowin newly arranged for cello by Séverine Ballon.

Music by: Eliane Radigue, Franck Bedrossian, Sabrina Schroeder, Raphael Cendo, Francesco Filidei, Luc Ferrari, Chaya Czernowin, Alec Hall, Dmitri Kourliandski, and Aaron Einbond.
